Classical Civilizations/World History to the 16th Century - At Home Study
Welcome Back!
I am so happy to be getting "back together" and excited to see how we can tackle some curriculum together in this new format. Given the government mandate of 3 hours of task/assignment work per week, we will have to cut back our focus a little for the time being, but we will still hit many of the major areas that were on the agenda. I aim to take this month-by-month, with the (slim?) hope that we will be together in class again soon. For you this means to just think about it week-by-week, and with "one month" in mind. We will all see where we're at come May.
For April we will be focusing on Minoan vs. Mycenaean Cultures and the story of the Trojan War , as well as our continuation of the culminating essays (which have an increased importance of completion, especially for the Grade 12 level students, preparing for post-secondary education).
In terms of task, I will provide a weekly set of goals in a link below, and will attempt to break them into 3 hour-long sets, so that you can see how the mandated time is being met by both the instructor and the learner. The actual course web pages are still available from this site, but will have been "bumped" from the main bar at the top to a drop down menu to the right of them. The "Writing Skills" tab is still there too.
I will also be attempting to tackle a "Showbie" account. Please sign up for the class on the application, using the code I e-mailed to you yesterday. I am new to that app, but hope it is beneficial to all of us. As always with technology, I appreciate your patience, as well as your help. You students are my technology-life raft :)
Much of the work I will assign will be quite independent, which I think is appropriate for senior-level students. I will venture to make the tasks meaningful and interesting. Feel free at all times to access each other, through whatever social media and created groups you wish (i.e. on-line chat groups/"study groups"), in order to make the collective completion of tasks less individual and more collaborative. If you need me to help facilitate this in any way, please let me know.
My e-mail, as always, is [email protected]. Please DO NOT e-mail my GAFE account, as it is not my primary e-mail. There is also the class chat feature on Showbie. I will venture to answer all of your questions in a timely fashion. Please note though that a focus throughout all my classes is "learning how to learn", which you have all heard me say ad nauseum (what language is this and what does it mean?). Have confidence in your own ability, use the internet, and lean on each other in order to try and figure out small issues. I will always be here as a safety net if you are truly stuck and need guidance.
